At the Southern Part of the province of Surigao del Norte stands the town of Tubod. The town is famous for its spring (Tuboran) from which the name Tubod originated. The spring is so large that when fully developed can sufficiently meet the water needs of the whole town and its surrounding barangays and sitios. Irrigation of riceland get their principal source of water from the spring.

The first inhabitants of the place were immigrants from Visayas and neighboring provinces of Mindanao. A certain Agustin Mendez, a Boholano, founded the place and called this town Tubod, meaning “SPRING” or Tuboran in our local dialect.

Tubod was formerly a barrio of the Municipality of Mainit. In 1958, it was created into a Municipality by Executive Order No. 269 issued by the late President Carlos P. Garcia. The terrain of the town is composed mostly of valleys and rolling hills. It is chiefly an agricultural land. It is bounded on the eastern part by the Municipality of Bacuag, on the west and south by the Municipality of Mainit town that has only an aggregate area of 4544.98 hectares. Rice lands are planted twice a year.

Tubod is presently populated by about 12,398 people. Except for the town officials and other government employees and private firm workers, most of the people are farmers. Majority of the people are coconut producers although relatively marginal farmers. Agricultural lands are well distributed to the people.

Today, the municipality has nine barangays, namely Poblacion, San Pablo, Del Rosario, Cawilan, Marga, Timamana, Capayahan, San Isidro and Motorpool.
